BIKE TAKEAWAY:

Summer is a great time of the year to enjoy biking along with another favorite summer activity-kayaking!

Summer is such a great time of year in the regionThere is so much to do and see. But there are also a lot of opportunities to just relax and enjoy the season. One way to do that is to take a leisurely ride along the Mount Vernon Trail and enjoy the water by kayaking. And that’s exactly what we did!

After gathering at the Clarendon Metro, we biked to the Custis Trail and connected to the Mt. Vernon Trail. Our ultimate destination was the Columbia Island Marina, a little-known place to kayak for most of us. Making the excursion event sweeter, our 4-year-old rider excitedly said, “I never kayaked before in my whole life!” 😊

The weather was perfect for our ride; mid-80s with low humidity. One family even invited their 55+ and better parents, who were visiting from out of town, to join them. The pair of active seniors kayaked from the Washington Marina to meet us at Columbia Island. After an hour of kayaking, we biked back to Rosslyn to end the afternoon with pizza at Wise Guys.

Missed this event? No worries. We have themed rides like this all year. Check out our upcoming events and join us for one, or all of them!
