8 Things to Do to Get Ready
1. Is your bike ready for the Ride? Are the tires full and the gears shifting properly? If you need help getting your bike ready, consider taking it to a local bike shop for a check-up. Bike shops get busy in the spring, so leave yourself extra time before the Ride.
2. Are YOU ready for the Ride? The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) is offering free Confident City Cycling Classes before the Ride to help you become a safer and better rider. The date of the first class is Saturday, May 20, 2006 from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm at the Arlington Central Library. Contact WABA to reserve a space in one of these useful classes before they fill up.
3. Find your helmet. Only riders wearing helmets may participate. If you don't have a helmet, purchase one at a local bike shop.
4. Bring one or more water bottles. Water and sports drink will be provided, however, it's always a good idea to have extra.
5. Pack a rain jacket. The Ride is rain or shine. Bring rain gear so it won't rain!
6. Pack a few basic bike repair tools. Include a spare inner tube that's the right size for your bike and a pump. Even if you don't know how to fix a flat, it will be easier get assistance by our roving marshals if you have these tools with you. Bike shops will be performing emergency repairs before the Ride.
7. Bring personal identification and a mobile phone.
8. If you're riding with a group make a plan in case you get separated. You may want to establish a contact person whom you all can call. You can also plan to meet at the registration table.
