May is National Bike Month and celebrations are happening all across Metro DC. Peruse the list of events, grab your friends and family, and go for a ride.

National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists, is 31 days of pure bicycling fun and celebrations across the country throughout the month of May.

We’ve compiled a list of events and activities happening right here in Arlington and Metro DC to keep you riding all month long.

May 1

High fives for all on the first day of May!

Ride along the Custis Trail to the corner of Lynn Street and Route 29, near the Bikeometer, and get a few high fives from BikeArlington staff and friends on your way into the office.

May 3

Bike Month Happy Hour
Alexandria SpokesWomen and co-sponsors are hosting a happy hour for Alexandria Cyclists to snack and chatter about Alexandria happenings.

May 5

The Tree House Tour de Cookie
Cyclists of all ages are invited to bicycle their way from one cookie stand to the next.

MORE Women Ride
The International Mountain Biking Association is hosting a day on the trails to celebrate the inaugural International Women’s Mountain Biking Day (#womensmtbday).

Bipedal Soundscapes with the Arlington Arts Truck
Visit the Arlington Arts Truck ride the stationary bicycle that produces sounds of Arlington when pedaled, and meet the creators, Emily Francisco and Alex Braden.

Papillon’s Casual Coffee Ride—Bike Month Edition
This is a great ride for beginners, coffee lovers, and anyone who wants to enjoy a day of socializing and riding.

May 6

Adult Learn to Rides Classes
Learn the basics of riding a bike while having fun. Morning and afternoon sessions are available.

Bakery Break Community Ride
Enjoy tasty baked treats from two area bakeries while cruising Arlington neighborhoods.

May 7

Arlington Bicycle Advisory Committee Meeting 
Join the Arlington community and committee members to discuss projects, safety, and education happening in the area enhance bicycling in the area and give feedback.

May 9

Bike and Walk to School Day
Join Arlington Public Schools for the annual celebration of bike to school day and raise awareness about the importance of bicycle and pedestrian safety and safe routes to schools in Arlington neighborhoods.

May 10

Prep for Bike to Work Day (Mentee Night)
New to riding? The Women & Bicycles: Washington DC Region group is hosting an evening for all new riders to ask questions, plan routes, and create a plan for Bike to Work Day.

May 12

Champion Trees Bike Ride
Arlington Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting a leisurely bike ride to explore Arlington’s historic trees and natural scenery.

May 14 – May 18

Bike to Work Week Crystal City
Enjoy coffee, bagels, snacks, and mingling with fellow riders each morning from The Crystal City BID.

May 16

Phoenix Bikes All the Cycle Ladies
Join the monthly workshop to learn new or enhance skills, including fixing flats, adjusting brakes, shifting and gears, group riding, and more.

May 18

Bike to Work Day
Join thousands of area commuters for a celebration of biking as a fun, healthy, and sustainable way to get to work. Meet up with neighbors and coworkers at one of the 100 regional pit stops, including nine hosted by Arlington.

May 19

DC Bike Ride
Enjoy a fun, recreational 20 mile ride on car-free, safe streets. The event is open is bicyclists of all ages and abilities.

May 20

DC Bike Swap & Expo
This is event is great for bike lovers, artists, collectors, new riders are interested in selling, trading, shopping for all things bike related.
