High Temps Push Bike Counts To Near the Top

If you are like me, you get the daily Tweet from the Rosslyn Bikeometer, the East Coast’s First Real-Time Publicly Displayed Bike Counter, and just one of Arlington’s extensive bike counter network.

So when I saw the tweet this morning with yesterday’s total of 1,502 (!), I thought, “That HAS to be a record!” But, alas, it’s only the #4 winter* day since it was installed in 2014.  And well behind the all-time winter winner of March 16, 2016.

Note: March 8, 9, and 16, 2016 all had highs in the 70s. But the Bikeometer is relatively new compared to its sister counter up the trail, the Rosslyn Custis counter, near where Lee Highway cross over I-66. Counter data there goes back to October 2009. Yesterday was still a Top Five Winter riding day, and March 16, 2016 is still Winter King of the Mountain, having pushed out the mid-March 2012 stretch with winter heat wave with highs in the 80s.
