BikeArlington in partnership with the Arlington County Library is hosting a monthly Bike Book Club. It’s the perfect event for you if you 1. Love to read 2. Enjoy bicycling, 3. Want to ride your bike with friendly people at a leisurely pace and/or 4. Want to read more books.

This month’s book is The Other Americans by Laila Lalami. We will be riding to Aurora Hills Library to discuss this book.

It’s Season 2 of the Bike Book Club. We had a lot of fun and read + discussed some great books last year. This year thanks to feedback from many of you, I am adding in some fiction books as well. It’s a chance for you to meet some new people, go on a bike ride, and discuss a book you may not have read before. Why not join us?

We will meet at locations close to a Capital Bikeshare station in case you don’t have a bike then ride to one of the county’s libraries to discuss that month’s book.

Paseo por Arlington: Sharing Culture Ride
Oct 9 @ 12:30 pm

Join WABA and BikeArlington for a short leisurely ride out and back on multi-use trails to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. We’ll be uplifting Latinx and Hispanic-owned businesses and culture along the way and make a stop at Silvia’s Snow Cones for an icy treat on us. All are welcome to join this free ride.

Where We’re Riding:
Ride along the Washington & Old Dominion and Four Mile Run Trails – both are quiet, scenic trails that run through Arlington. We’ll do a short, flat 4.2 mile ride on Piscataway land starting from Bluemont Park (601 N Manchester St Arlington, VA 22203). The ride is a round trip. We’ll depart from the public bathrooms at Bluemont Park (the Wilson Blvd side), make our way along the W&OD, stop at Silvia’s Snow Cones off Columbia Pike, and bike back to Bluemont Park.

While riding, walking, or taking a break along the ride routes, participants must maintain 6 ft of distance between themselves and others not in their households. During the check-in, Snow Cone stop, and while otherwise closer than 6 ft apart, participants must wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose. Helmets are required for this ride. If you don’t have one, email us and we’ll get you a loaner. We’ll be riding on a paved trail for the duration of the ride and welcome you to bring your own bike. Don’t have a personal bike? No worries. We’ll reimburse your usage fee of a Capital Bikeshare bike – just shoot us an email before the event. Please dress accordingly in comfortable attire and bring water to stay hydrated.

If you have any questions please email Evelyn Murcia evelyn.murcia@bikearlington.com

BikeArlington Presents: E-bike Demo and Ride with Rad Power Bikes
Oct 30 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Join BikeArlington and Rad Power Bikes for a free event to learn about and test ride e-bikes!

E-bikes are changing the world. With the extra boost from pedal assistance or a throttle (or both), more people can enjoy the freedom and joy of riding a bike, more of the time. Whether you’re a parent looking for a sustainable, easy way to do school drop-off, a commuter looking to sweat less, or someone who just wants an extra boost, an e-bike might be for you.

We will meet at Quincy Parking Deck and hear from employees and owners of Rad Power e-bikes before going for a ride around Arlington to test out the e-bikes on trails, streets, and hills.

Rad will have 10 e-bikes available to take on the ride and slots are first come, first served. If you already have an e-bike, join us on the ride to share your experience as an e-bike owner.

Riders should be comfortable balancing and riding on a bike. The ride will be at a relaxed pace as new riders adjust to the e-bike experience. Helmets are required on Rad & BikeArlington rides; if you do not have one please indicate that when registering and we will lend you one.
