Events
BikeArlington, WalkArlington, and Arlington Public Library invite you to join Balaclavas & Baklava, our signature Winter Accessory Workshop. Participants will learn how to make their very own winter walk or bike accessory, from a warm ear cover to a full-head balaclava. These make a great gift, donation, and are of course perfect for your own winter outdoor activities. Register for this event.
Materials provided:
- Step-by-step instructions to make a balaclava and ear cover/neck gaiter
- Downloadable templates
- Live tutorial
Materials to have on hand:
- 24”x16” piece of fleece (or other stretchy, cozy wicking fabric – not cotton) in the pattern of your choice. Note: one yard of standard-width (60 inches) fleece yields about 6 balaclavas or 10-15 ear covers/neck gaiters
- Sewing machine OR needle and a few feet of thread
- Scissors
- Straight pins or safety pins
- Marker or pen
All skill levels are welcome. All of these patterns can be made if you know how to do a simple stitch, although the ear cover and neck gaiters are simplest. The event is free, but RSVPs are requested.
Note: Don’t let materials be a barrier! If you need assistance obtaining the materials necessary for this event, please contact info@bikearlington.com or respond as such during event registration. We will have limited supplies available through Arlington Public Library’s Take and Make craft pickup.

About the Event
BikeArlington, WalkArlington, and the APS Safe Routes to School Program invite you to join us for 12 Days of Active Winter Break. We will be sharing 12 kid-friendly activities to keep everyone active and engaged over the holidays.
Every child counts down the days until Winter Break, but parents and caregivers may feel like they are counting the days until it is done! This year, the pandemic presents even greater challenges in keeping everyone sane during the holidays.
County staff and local residents will be offering 12 different activities that you and your family can participate in to stay active and entertained. Arlington has so much to offer and what better time to experience it than over the long break. Each activity will be free, physically distant, accessible, and walk/bike friendly.
We encourage you to share the event with your family and friends to make sure they don’t miss out on any of the fun to be had over the break. Make the most of the time you have with your family while maintaining a fun and active lifestyle.
