Balaclavas and Baklava: Make Your Own Winter Accessory Workshop
Dec 10 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

BikeArlington, WalkArlington, and Arlington Public Library invite you to join Balaclavas & Baklava, our signature Winter Accessory Workshop. Participants will learn how to make their very own winter walk or bike accessory, from a warm ear cover to a full-head balaclava. These make a great gift, donation, and are of course perfect for your own winter outdoor activities. Register for this event.

Materials provided:

Step-by-step instructions to make a balaclava and ear cover/neck gaiter
    Downloadable templates
    Live tutorial

Materials to have on hand:

24”x16” piece of fleece (or other stretchy, cozy wicking fabric – not cotton) in the pattern of your choice. Note: one yard of standard-width (60 inches) fleece yields about 6 balaclavas or 10-15 ear covers/neck gaiters
Sewing machine OR needle and a few feet of thread
    Scissors
    Straight pins or safety pins
    Marker or pen

All skill levels are welcome. All of these patterns can be made if you know how to do a simple stitch, although the ear cover and neck gaiters are simplest. The event is free, but RSVPs are requested.

Note: Don’t let materials be a barrier! If you need assistance obtaining the materials necessary for this event, please contact info@bikearlington.com or respond as such during event registration. We will have limited supplies available through Arlington Public Library’s Take and Make craft pickup.

Paseo por Arlington: Sharing Culture Ride
    Oct 9 @ 12:30 pm

Join WABA and BikeArlington for a short leisurely ride out and back on multi-use trails to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. We’ll be uplifting Latinx and Hispanic-owned businesses and culture along the way and make a stop at Silvia’s Snow Cones for an icy treat on us. All are welcome to join this free ride.

    Where We’re Riding:
Ride along the Washington & Old Dominion and Four Mile Run Trails – both are quiet, scenic trails that run through Arlington. We’ll do a short, flat 4.2 mile ride on Piscataway land starting from Bluemont Park (601 N Manchester St Arlington, VA 22203). The ride is a round trip. We’ll depart from the public bathrooms at Bluemont Park (the Wilson Blvd side), make our way along the W&OD, stop at Silvia’s Snow Cones off Columbia Pike, and bike back to Bluemont Park.

While riding, walking, or taking a break along the ride routes, participants must maintain 6 ft of distance between themselves and others not in their households. During the check-in, Snow Cone stop, and while otherwise closer than 6 ft apart, participants must wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose. Helmets are required for this ride. If you don’t have one, email us and we’ll get you a loaner. We’ll be riding on a paved trail for the duration of the ride and welcome you to bring your own bike. Don’t have a personal bike? No worries. We’ll reimburse your usage fee of a Capital Bikeshare bike – just shoot us an email before the event. Please dress accordingly in comfortable attire and bring water to stay hydrated.

If you have any questions please email Evelyn Murcia evelyn.murcia@bikearlington.com

    Adonde Vamos:
