Top 3 Ways to Go Team Bike for Car-Free Day
Celebrate Car-Free Day the best way possible, which is to say, by joining #TeamBike!
Car Free Day is an international celebration that happens around the world, every September 22. In the DC Metro region, you can celebrate this day by taking the pledge, picking your team and testing a new mode on Thursday. For anyone who is pumped to join Team Bike or interested but not quite sure how to work it into your day, here are three great ways to try out Team Bike!
1. Try Capital Bikeshare for $2
In case you didn’t know, you can now ride Capital Bikeshare for just $2. As a way to help commuters during SafeTrack, Capital Bikeshare introduced a one-way $2 ride. Yep – sounds too good to be true, but it’s true. $2 gets you 30 free minutes to roll between stations.
All you need is a credit card, your helmet (if you want) and a plan for where you’d like to go on your adventure. You can download the free app, Spotcycle, to check out all the stations in the DC region to help you choose a destination and make sure there is a place to dock the bike at the end of your ride.
2. Go for a Ride After Work
Committing to a bike ride before work might be tough, especially if you’re not an early bird. So instead, go for a casual, de-stressing, post-work ride. Not sure where to ride? Check out this list of great biking trails in Arlington from our friends over at Arlington Transportation Partners. Lots of great trails to explore while the weather is starting to cool off and you’re guaranteed to see plenty of other Team Bike riders out and about.
Also be sure to check out our community rides or other riding groups happening around Arlington throughout the year. Find a group that suits your riding style so you can de-stress more often.
3. Roll to Lunch
Ya know what – even if you just hop on a bike to roll to lunch – that counts as Team Bike! The major key (accordingly to DJ Khaled) to biking more often is to literally get on a bike more often. Common sense, right? Even if that’s only for a few minutes here and there, it’ll feel more natural. So take a small step towards biking with a quick two minute ride to lunch. You can walk, metro or bus back if you’re not feeling the return ride, especially if it’s uphill – we won’t tell!
