Celebrate National Walking Day with WalkArlington
Join us in celebrating National Walking Day, an annual event hosted locally by WalkArlington! Take part in guided community walks and discover how easy it is to explore Arlington County.
Over past National Walking Days, WalkArlington has brought together the Arlington community to celebrate the joys of walking. These events have included guided hikes on Theodore Roosevelt Island—presented in partnership with the National Park Service—where participants enjoyed history and nature walks covering Theodore Roosevelt’s life, the island’s story, habitats, and flora and fauna.
We’ve also hosted “Walk & Learn: Engineering Safer Streets,” where attendees joined Arlington County’s Vision Zero Program Manager on a guided walk in an Arlington neighborhood to learn about safety improvements in our busy corridors.
Other highlights includes the annual Juneteenth Black Heritage Walk with the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington. Participants have discovered important historic sites such as St. John’s Baptist Church and Freedman’s Village Bridge, concluding at the museum to explore artifacts and exhibits from Arlington’s history.
