Every May, we look forward to a little extra commuting fun on Bike to Work Day, when thousands of bike commuters come out to connect with fellow cyclists and celebrate BikeArlington’s favorite form of active transportation! This year is a little different because the celebration is on a THURSDAY, not a Friday, so be sure to mark the right day on your calendar!
If you’ve attended this free annual event before, you know how much of a treat it is. If Bike to Work Day is new to you, we hope you’ll register for this year’s event (Thursday, May 15) and then hop on your bike or use Capital Bikeshare to experience it for yourself. With eight pit stops in Arlington and more than 100 in the region, there’s sure to be one near your workplace or home. Read on to learn more about what to expect at the three pit stops BikeArlington hosts. There are sure to be similar opportunities and experiences at other Arlington pit stops, too!
10. Enjoy free food and drink!
We’ll have lots of tasty refreshments at the BikeArlington-hosted pit stops (Ballston, Rosslyn, and Shirlington), including healthy packaged snacks, coffee, juice, fruit, McDonald’s breakfast items, and Astro and Good Company doughnuts.
9. Meet our great tabling partners.
More than 30 organizations will be tabling at our BikeArlington-sponsored pit stops, offering you the chance to learn about their work, access services, and pick up some giveaways.
8. Exercise before you start the work day.
Whether you’re commuting to your workplace, working from home, retired, or looking for work, a morning bike ride will boost your metabolism, increase mental acuity, and improve your mood.
7. Treat your bike to a safety check at all three BikeArlington pit stops.
Take advantage of this opportunity to have a bike mechanic from Trek or Conte’s check out your bike and make sure it’s in good riding condition.
6. Mingle with other bike enthusiasts.
Have fun getting to know other cyclists and comparing notes on your favorite routes, gear, and strategies for staying cool when riding in summer. You might meet a new riding buddy!
5. Grab a copy of BikeArlington’s latest Bicycle Comfort Level Map to plan your next ride.
The latest BikeArlington Bicycle Comfort Level Map includes the most up-to-date information on bike lanes and trails in Arlington. It uses a scoring system to rate road segments and trails based on a variety of factors that contribute to your bicycling experience, making it easy to identify routes where you’ll feel most confident. BikeArlington will be distributing free printed copies at the Ballston, Rosslyn, and Shirlington pit stops.
4. Pick up a free bike bell.
Pick up a free bike bell at the BikeArlington pit stops in Ballston, Rosslyn, and Shirlington, then use it to keep you, other bicyclists, and pedestrians safe.
3. Snag the official 2025 Bike to Work Day T-shirt! It’s free with registration.
This year’s T-shirt color is red. Some Bike to Work Day veterans have a colorful collection of official T-shirts dating back to some of the region’s earliest Bike to Work Days. Whether you’re a collector or a first-timer, enjoy adding this bold new color to your wardrobe.
2. Help Arlington meet our 2025 registration goal.
Every year, Arlington commits to registering a certain number of Bike to Work Day participants at County pit stops. This year, we’ve set our sights high with a goal of 2,025 total registrants at Arlington’s eight morning and afternoon pit stop locations (Arlington Mill, Ballston, HQ National Guard, Langston Boulevard, Met Park, National Landing, Rosslyn, and Shirlington). Help show Arlington’s commitment to biking by signing up at one of these pit stops to take part in this premier regional biking event.
1. Represent the active transportation lifestyle, which is what Bike to Work Day is all about!
