On the morning of Monday, January 16, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, join us in Arlington, Virginia, to clean up litter and debris on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail, a beautiful trail that’s enjoyed by cyclists and walkers alike.
As Dr. King once said, “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.” Let’s honor his wish by caring for the trail and making it an even nicer place for others to bike and walk! All are welcome.
What We’ll Do
We’ll start on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail where it intersects with Columbia Pike. Look for the Bike/WalkArlington tent! We’ll work our way down the W&OD toward South George Mason Drive.
We’ll focus on picking up the litter and trash that gathers in the vegetation near the side of the trail. Refreshments and some fun giveaways will be provided as a thank-you to all who come out for the cleanup.
Spread the word and invite your friends to join us!
This event is free, but registration is required. The cleanup will be held rain or shine. If there is severe weather, we will cancel this event.
What to Bring
• Gloves
• Trash Pickers or Grabbers
• Sun protection
Trash bags will be available onsite. A limited supply of gloves, trash pickers, and grabbers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
What to Wear
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. The area has a lot of vegetation, so pants are recommended.

It’s cold outside but that doesn’t mean you have to give up riding your bike. In fact, we want to encourage you to warm up to cold-weather biking on International Winter Bike to Work Day.
This year we will have two morning pit stops–one at Gravelly Point on the Mount Vernon Trail and one on the Custis Trail in Rosslyn. No matter where you’re going (whether to work, school, errands, or a casual ride), stop by to say hello and grab some BikeArlington and Capital Bikeshare swag. We’ll also have free hot drinks and breakfast sandwiches from McDonald’s. First come, first served!

So get that bike out, put on some warm layers, and ride your bike. You’ll discover that winter is actually a fun time to be out on your bike!
